How does a building stay cool naturally?
Examples:
- Building orientation and window placement
- Natural ventilation and cross-ventilation
- Shading devices (overhangs, louvers, trees)
- Green roofs and walls for cooling

How do buildings save energy and/or water?
Examples:
- Energy efficient systems (e.g. air conditioning)
- Renewable energy (e.g. solar energy)
- Automatic controls and sensors (eg: lighting, Occupant-Centric aircon systems)
- Water efficient features

- Spotlight Building Features
- When responding to your selected question, your submission must cover two distinct features or methods.
- You can choose the features or methods from the examples listed above for each question, or explore other relevant sustainable features in your selected building.
- Your two selected features should be distinct approaches that help answer your chosen question.
Judging Criteria
- Communication & Creativity (30%)
- Fun and engaging explanations that are easy to understand
- Use of simple visuals, demonstrations, or analogies to support explanations
- Creative, clear and enthusiastic delivery
- Explains technical concepts in simple, relatable ways
- Understanding of Sustainability (40%)
- Must include one local Green Mark building as example
- Must cover 2 different features and/or methods for the chosen question
- Presents benefits of building such as energy savings, low EUI, thermal comfort, environmental benefits, and/or other social benefits, as appropriate and relevant for each question
- Demonstrates accurate understanding of sustainability approaches
- Impact and Engagement (30%)
- Helps others understand why these features matter for our built environment
- Encourages audience to notice and appreciate green features around them
- Inspires interest in how buildings can be better for the planet
- Creates enthusiasm for sustainable living
