Competition Brief for Category B: IHL Track
- Choose 1 of 2 Questions
-
What are the different ways to keep buildings cool naturally?
Examples:
- Building orientation and window placement
- Natural ventilation and cross-ventilation
- Shading devices (overhangs, louvers, trees)
- Green roofs and walls for cooling
- Reflective materials (e.g. cool paint)
-
How do buildings reduce carbon emissions?
Examples:
- Alternative cooling technologies (e.g. hybrid cooling, passive displacement cooling, mix mode ventilation)
- Energy efficient systems (e.g. air conditioning)
- Renewable energy (e.g. solar energy)
- Automatic controls and sensors (e.g. lighting, Occupant-Centric aircon systems)
- Smart facilities/energy management (e.g. Building Management Systems, application of AI, Robotics and Automation)
- Embodied carbon reduction measures / Sustainable building materials (e.g. Green Concrete, Green steel, Mass Engineered Timbre) and alternative materials (e.g. Carbon Mineralised Concrete, Recycled Concrete Aggregate, Ordinary Portland Cement)
- Design for Maintainability
